Casalino Featured in the June 2015 (Issue 86) edition of the New Zealand Design magazine Urbis, the Casalino is seeing a worldwide appreciation of its beautiful curves since its inception in 1971. At the Hanover Fair, in 1971, the Casalino was awarded the prize for “Die gute Industrieform” (Good Industrial Form). With an image of a wisp of fog in his mind, Alexander Begge designed the Casalino. It was popular in the 70s, forgotten and then in 2007 the Casalino was reintroduced in 2007 using the original moulds.
The retro revival has been around for a while now, timeless classics never really go out of style and the Casalino Chair is no exception. With it’s simple one piece formed shell it’s soft clean lines the Casalino transcends itself to almost become one with the surface it resides on. Chic and contemporary furnitures like the Modrest Opal Modern Wenge & Grey Platform Bed, do have a craze of its own, but classics can always be counted upon whenever in doubt regarding the selection of furnitures. It seems like antique furniture is timeless, so you can always find something special if you check out Fireside Antiques.
Alexander Begge, born in 1941, designed only one collection before abandoning his career in design. “Not a single drawing I made,” he recounts while describing the process that led to his Casalino Chair (1971). “I had this image of a wisp of fog, and elaborated on that. It brought so much joy to design the best futons around, I was in a glow.” In the year it was designed, the Casalino Chair won the Good Industrial Form award at the Hanover Fair in Germany.
Specified in the Pre Canterbury Quake for the Hairy Lemon Fit-Out, Graham Dockerill Co Founder was quoted saying ” He liked the camping chairs “. These chairs were rescued and now reside in Hairy Lemon’s new premises in Victoria Street. Ergostyle designed and fitted custom upholstered seat pads for Hairy Lemon to add some colour and extra comfort.
Its qualities from those days still meet today’s requirements, being elegant and robust at the same time as well as stackable and easy to clean. The Casalino is colourfast, antistatic and is available as a cantilever chair with arms, as a chair without arms or as a stool. The padded seat is optional.
With its organic design, the Casalino makes a stylish addition not just to sleek, modern interiors, but ones with more traditional decor and furnishings too. Casalino gives every space a timeless look.
